MMS Sports Competitions 2016-17 : Chess Tournaments

Sports enthusiasts, recreational players, and those who enjoy playing any of the games, get ready to have plenty of fun... The Maharashtra Mandal (Singapore) Sports Tournaments are here once again.

This year, MMS is happy to add Chess tournaments to its foray of sporting activities during the Sports Competitions.

• Age 7 to 14
• Age 15 and above

Format of the Game

• The FIDE Laws of Chess shall apply https://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.html?id=171&view=article
• Knock-out format for players to advance in the tournament. Trophies to be given to Winner and the Runner-up from each category
• Each player will get 40 mins to complete 20 moves. If checkmate does not happen in first 40 mins then the player who does not make 20 moves in 40 minutes loses. If both players cannot make 20 moves in 40 minutes, the player who has made more number of moves wins. If both players complete 20 moves then the player having maximum point wins. Relative value of pieces is designated as below-
• If both players have equal points then they get additional 10 mins to complete the game during which they have to make at least 6 moves. Points will be calculated at the end of stage two to decide the winner.
• Chess clock application on mobile phone will be used for the control of time and moves. Participants to download the app as below.

Please note the following-

• Tournaments are open only to MMS members. In case of children below 12 years of age, one of the parents needs to be MMS Member.
• Registration will close two days before the actual event.
• Exact reporting time of each category will be informed 2 days before depending on the number of entries we receive.
